Visit Copenhagen like a viking
Be a pro Viking guide – with friends!
Are you expecting guests this summer? And would you like to show off Copenhagen like a true pro? If so, Norse Theme Parks can recommend 9 great outings, with 1 way to rule them: the Hafn 1043 Self-guided tour collection. This package includes a customized map, wayfinding codes, stories, visuals and more.
Hafn 1043 will put you firmly in the walking-or-biking seat, so you can cruise Copenhagen at your leisure. No waiting in line or buying expensive guided tours; just you, our knowledge and your friends. You can even make a present out of it as a memento of time well spent.
Be spoiled for choice
Whether it's culture, gastronomy or nightlife, Copenhagen doesn't disappoint. We can send you to 9 of the best sights, but there are many others. As a little gift from us, here's some extra input on meaningful sightseeing targets, some of which are connected to Viking history and Norse Mythology (which we love!).
Get regal
If you’re into castles and palaces, Rosenborg Castle, Christiansborg Palace and Amalienborg Palace should be on your to-do list. For day trips, Frederiksborg Castle, Fredensborg Palace and Egeskov Castle stand out – but so does the rugged ‘Hamlet’s Castle’ Kronborg, on the coast in Elsinore.
Built for believers
Lovers of church architecture should go here: St. Alban’s Anglican Church (small and quaint). The rococo-style Marble Church (with the largest dome in Europe). And the twin-spired, brick-built Roskilde Cathedral (Scandinavia’s first Gothic Cathedral).
Peace and war
Surrounded by colourful restaurants, cafes and bars, the canal boats moored at Nyhavn Canal carry carefree tourists. But great longships like ‘Skuldelev 2’ - at Roskilde’s Viking Ship Museum - would have carried battle-hardened Viking raiders to war. See both!
Viking forts
In the city, The Citadel is part of a network of 5 large ring forts built by King Harald Bluetooth. Trelleborg Ring Fortress in west-Zealand is another example. The site of Aggersborg ring fort – on the banks of the serene Limfjord in north Jutland - will make a lasting impression.
Buying and selling
In Denmark, amber is called ‘Nordic Gold’. You can find polished stones in our jewellery shops and rough ones on some of our beaches! During the Viking Age, amber and even-rarer commodities such as walrus-ivory tusks from Greenland were traded in Europe, the Orient and the Far East.
Culture boosts
The statue of the Little Mermaid is an A-list attraction. Still, she has company: The statue of H.C. Andersen, The Gefion Fountain and Statue. Thorvaldsen's marble sculptures. The Viking Lur Players. And in the small town of Jelling, King Harald Bluetooth’s rune-carved Jelling Stone.
Biking - with a little help from our friends
Blissfully flat, Copenhagen is extremely bike friendly, making it environmentally friendly too. And now that Copenhagen e-bike Rental Tours is stocking Hafn 1043, you can rent their bikes and follow our leads. The sights you can cover in just 2 hours will amaze you!
